Inspired by true events, Darkroom tells the insightful tale of David Mills, a man who develops crime scene photographs for the Salt Lake City Police Department. Haunted by the dreadful and often grisly images, David experiences a dangerous disconnect from reality. Consequently dividing the union between himself and his wife Coy, who is suffering from her own psychological battle related to pregnancy complications. The family divide weighs heavily on the relationship, and while Coy agonizes over her strenuous predicament, David embraces a complex inner monologue, escaping his subdued generic life with Coy, to the stimulating relationship that he envisions having with the victims depicted in the photos.
